Meet Our Horses

Horses are the heroes of our program. These amazing creatures that take our breath away with their beauty and bring peace to our souls with their presence are perfectly designed as a service animal. The healing relationship between the horse and the human is a magnificent sight to behold. The horse's ability to carry us, their warmth and body movement, ability to respond immediately to our movements, and their keen perception to mirror our emotions makes them the perfectly designed therapeutic partner. Equine assisted services uses the movement of the horse to create muscle and sensory stimulation that brings about physical, emotional and cognitive rehabilitation.  The rhythmic, repetitive gait of the horse is similar to the human gait and gives the experience of normal walking movement in the rider.  Riding the horse brings a sense of freedom many of our riders are not able to experience any other way. In addition, our horses provide a non-judgmental relationship, accepting individuals for who they are regardless of physical, emotional or social abilities.

Savannah Station is committed to helping both the rider and the horse by rescuing horses for this higher calling whenever possible.  Horses with the patience and temperament to be a therapeutic program horse are highly valued.  Each horse in the Savannah Station program has earned their spot as a reliable and safe member of the healing team.  We do look for new horses to join our program as the need arises.

If you think your horse might have what it takes to be a member of the Savannah Station healing team,

Blue

Blue is the heart throb of the barn with a quite attitude, kind eye, sturdy build and friendly face.  With his broad back, he is our "go to" for riders that need a little extra help with their balance.  He was born in 2005 and is a Black and White Tobiano American Paint Gelding.

Boomer

Boomer has a beautiful kindness about himself that has quickly made him a favorite.  Many of our riders find peace and acceptance in his kind eyes.  He also has the slowest and sweetest lope for our riders who are ready for the challenge.  Boomer was born in 2008 and is a Sorrel American Quarter Horse Gelding.

Penny Annie

Penny Annie joined the healing team in the fall of 2022.  Her gentleness and sweetness has captured our hearts. She has such a kindness about her along with a sturdy build and slow walk that is helping our riders grow their confidence while riding unclipped.  Annie was born in 1999 and is a Palomino American Quarter Horse Mare.

Peanut

We have big plans for this little one!  Peanut is a master at helping new riders feel comfortable around horses.    However, our ultimate goal for Peanut is to use his mini power to bring joy to seniors in retirement and nursing facilities.  He was born in 2011 and is a Appaloosa Mini Gelding.

Pollo

Pollo is all boy and pretty much the Dennis the Menace around the barn.  He is sweet and funny and is a great match for quiet and shy riders.  He is also gaited providing a smooth walk for some of our more delicate riders.  He was born in 2005 and is a Sorrel and White Tobiano American Paint Gelding.

Van Gough

Van Gough joined the healing team in January of 2023.  He is a well trained big tall former jumper who is making his presence known with his quiet, gentle spirit and well balanced trot.  We know he will help our riders grow in confidence and skill on their way to riding independently. Bull was a kill pen rescue who had been with the program almost two years.  He loved his job as a therapeutic program horse and was on his way to becoming one of our most trusted mounts.  A tragic accident took him away too soon.  He will forever be missed.
