Our Horses

Horses are the heroes of our program.  These amazing creatures that take our breath away with their beauty and bring peace to our souls with their presence are perfectly designed as a service animal.   The healing relationship between the horse and the human is a magnificent sight to behold. The horse's ability to carry us, their warmth and body movement, ability to respond immediately to our movements, and their keen perception to mirror our emotions makes them the perfectly designed therapy partner.  Equine assisted therapy uses the movement of the horse to create muscle and sensory stimulation that brings about physical, emotional and cognitive rehabilitation.  The rhythmic, repetitive gait of the horse is similar to the human gait and gives the experience of normal walking movement in the rider.  Riding the horse brings a sense of freedom many of our riders are not able to experience any other way.  In addition, our horses provide a non-judgmental relationship, accepting individuals for who they are regardless of physical, emotional or social abilities.

Savannah Station is committed to helping both the rider and the horse by rescuing horses for this higher calling whenever possible.  Horses with the patience and temperament to be a therapy horse are highly valued.  Each horse in the Savannah Station program has earned their spot as a reliable and safe member of the healing team.  We do look for new horses to join our program as the need arises.  If you think your horse might have what it takes, please download and complete the information packet on this page.

Blue
Blue is the heart throb of the barn with a quite attitude, kind eye, sturdy build and friendly face.  With his broad back, he is our "go to" for riders that need a little extra help with their balance.  He is a 14-year-old Black and White Tobiano American Paint Gelding.

Dutchess
Dutchess is making her presence known in a big way with our smallest riders.   Her small size and unwavering patience with busy little ones has made her a class favorite.   She is a 12 year-old Chocolate Palamino Pony Mare.

Peanut
We have big plans for this little one!  Peanut is a master at helping new riders feel comfortable around horses.  He is also part of the team for a new class of 4 and 5 year-olds.  However, our ultimate goal for Peanut is to use his mini power to bring joy to seniors in retirement and nursing facilities.  He is a 9 year-old Appaloosa Mini Gelding.

Pollo
Pollo is all boy and pretty much the Dennis the Menace around the barn.  He is sweet and funny and is a great match for quiet and shy riders.  He is also gaited providing a smooth walk for some of our more delicate riders.  He is a 14-year-old Sorrel and White Tobiano American Paint Gelding.

Rubee
Rubee is a treasured save from a kill pen.  She joined the team in the summer of 2020 and has won our hearts with her sweetness and quiet temperament.  She has her own special need with only one eye that has added a new deminsion to our classes.  She is quickly becoming a class favorite.  Rubee is a 20-year-old rescued, Sorrel American Quarter Horse Mare.

Tule
Tule is the quintessential therapy horse.  His alertness to his riders and his tender care of them makes him the trusted mount for our most fragile riders.  He is also quite the ham when it comes to pictures and will frequently stop and pose for the cameras.  He is an 18-year-old Bay American Quarter Horse Gelding.
